Tape and caulk on rear fastback vents
« on: February 14, 2022, 02:22:22 PM »
Been re-doing a couple things on my FB rear vents and was looking at the assembly manual and noticed that they call out for tape and caulk around the inside slider vent assemble to the body. I found one old picture looking through searches here, does this photo of the tape look correct (and what would it have been for)? Also attached an image of the assembly manual and noticed they also call for caulk around the vent slider assembly edges, but read somewhere searching for this that some have not found this on San Jose cars... thoughts?

Thanks,

Jason

My 9/65 "66 SJ car appears to have had tape and caulk.

Excellent reference image, thank you... I wonder what that tape is for, don't really understand the application.

Thanks,

The upper edge of the vent "leaked". The "fix" was tape and caulk.

Ha, I understand the caulk, don't get the tape, haha.

Thanks all,

Ford had/has the reputation of being a stogy old company, so the use of both caulk and tape conforms to the "belt with suspenders" analogy.
