70 Mach I - Paint Marks on Painted Steel Rims?
« on: February 14, 2022, 01:31:23 PM »
Iv'e seen paint marks (daubs / sprayed) on the inside of certain rims and no obvious marks on others.  My build-sheet doesn't have any color codes associated with the rims.  Before I mount my rims I'd like to include these, if the marks are pertinent to my car.  Dearborn built, Aug '69, Mach I with H code, E-70 14s on 6 in black steel rims.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Allen

Sorry don't have any pictures of a marking from those specific wheel to help out with

As for your buildsheet what is the code shown for your wheels on that sheet? Guessing that maybe yours has "P" listed?

Attached is a detail of that portion of the build-sheet.   Not sure what code you referred to for the "P"?
I didn't know if there was a reference to a color code in the MPC or any where else.
At this point, i'll likely mount without any paint marks.
Thanks in advance

A copy of a late 69 (during 70 production) MPC does list some identification markings. Not certain they match what was done on the line or not but they are there.

You have the 14x7 rims correct not the 14x6?

Just curious, how does the type of tire factor into the wheel code?

Your correct. In my haste I clipped the wrong section. Fixed it above

Thanks

As for the MPC from the time period and 7" wheels my copy shows  White and violet paint daubs

I dont believe your 2 bbl Mach should have 7" rims unless the original purchaser optioned them. The standard wheel for a 351 2 bbl is 14x6 and the E70-14 tire.
