Topic: Door Wiring Plastic Guides

Ok. So I got a pair of used door wire harnesses from a 69 cougar. They included the plastic guides and mounting hardware. Each side has 3 mounting tabs and I think I have figured out where the middle and the upper/forward tabs mount to the door. The bottom/rear one is the one in question. On a Cougar, all three mount to the door but the Cougar used a full door panel. On a standard Mustang door, the third screw would be in the lower painted area which makes me wonder if the bottom screw was used at all on a Mustang. I've tried to find any pictures of Mustang doors to see whether I can see the third screw hole without any luck. Can anyone explain the mounting of the plastic guide in the door?

Those plastic wiring covers were for deluxe door panels with the courtesy light, and included door speaker wiring should the car be so optioned, as well as a door ajar wire in the case of a Cougar should it be so optioned.
That being said, it still begs the question what sort of wire cover would be used for standard door panels when optioned with door speakers?
If you're cloning a Shelby why aren't you using the deluxe door panels though?
On a side note, grills were flat with standard door panels instead of scalloped out with deluxe door panels.

I am using deluxe door panels which would hide the bottom/rear mounting screw if it was used. I have found some low resolution pictures of original Mach 1 / Grande doors without speakers but I can't tell if there was a third mounting screw hole on the lower portion of the door shell. I'm assuming that the plastic guides would still be used for the door wiring harness with only the door courtesy light.

Yes my Mach 1 had those plastic guides and no door speakers
I now see where your confusion lies and I learned something new
There are Mustang/Shelby plastic guides and Cougar plastic guides
Looking at this Mustang/Shelby example here there are 2 clip on U nuts to accept machine thread captive washer screws for mounting the guides themselves

This misrepresented example shows a Cougar application since the door ajar wire is included
Note how it fastens in a 3rd place since the plastic guides are much longer
No 69 Mustang or Shelby had a door ajar indicator feature

Looks like you could cut the Cougar guides to work in a Mustang / Shelby.
