Are the U-bolts for the rear leafs the same for 8" as they are for the 9" diff in 65? I assume they are because of the tapered axle but want confirmation before ordering. NPD wasn't able to confirm.

Think about the bottom spring plate that is the same regardless of 8 inch or nine inch 65/66.    So the U bolts are the same too.
