1970 Coil Spring finish
« on: January 21, 2022, 12:51:18 PM »
Trying to find what the correct finish should be on my front coil springs.  Reading different posts I have gathered they should be heat treated bare steel similar to the leaf springs in the rear?  Also should have paint stripes for identification but my build sheet is long gone.  Car is DAP June 10 build Mach 1 351C-2v 4 speed with AC.

I would treat them the same as the rear leaf springs to duplicate the original oil quenched heat treated steel. Often service replacements were painted black (front and rear springs) to protect the metal while on the shelf/in storage waiting for installation

Will see if I have a matching build sheet

Don't have a copy of a similar car. Have 4 speeds without AC or auto with AC

For other cars I found (for the front springs) Gold-Orange or Gold-Tan

Sorry could not find a match for your car in what I've got copies of or in pictures

Not sure if this helps as mine is a jersey built car. June 22nd, 1970 H code Mach 1 with an FMX and factory air.

Yep, that pretty much confirms it.  Autopmatics were GOLD/TAN for coil springs.  Wish I could see one or two other build sheets that have GOLD/ORANGE for 4 speed cars.

Thank you for sharing.

Unfortunately no that doesn't help. That is not a match for the markings the OP was looking for  ::)
