69 Hood Pin Cables
« on: January 05, 2022, 02:54:30 AM »
Hi,
This might not be the proper area to post, but does anyone know of anybody who could replace the cables on a set of 69 hood pins?
I have an original set, but the cables are frayed and cracked, and I would like to have them replaced.
Thanks

Never have had this done. Possible that a service that does 67 Shelby hood pin halyards/cables would also have some knowledge for your needs. Different but similar practices/process. Sorry don't have a recommendation to post at this time

Ford Motorsport had a good looking replacement that I bought for my car in the 80's
They might show up on ebay eventually if you save a search
I can look them up in an old catalog if you like, and take a pic showing the part number too
I have every Motorsport/Racing catalog since the 82/83 edition

I noticed that NPD has the correct looking lanyard, out of stock though

I check with NPD about those cables. They are probably not going to be available anytime soon if ever.

NPD shows that they came from Precision Exhaust.  Maybe check with the guys at Precision Exhaust and see if they can make a batch.

I purchased a set of reproduction lanyards years ago. These were IDENTICAL to the originals. I still have the package they came in and I'd suggest that there is a link between where I got them and Precision Exhaust.
I have a name and number which I'll pm to 9F94M567042

When I asked NPD about these a few months ago they weren?t very hopeful that they?d be getting them back in stock. FYI

Unfortunately the crimp on the lanyard is far larger than the originals

I saw that listing on eBay. If those are NOT the correct representation of the crimps, can someone post a picture of what the originals looked like???
Maybe the ones I have are original?

My original one on the left and the repo I mentioned before on the right. On second look the repo is not “exact” but indeed very very close. The crimp on the original is slightly tighter and the mark on the back side is not as defined as the original. Still it is a very nice reproduction.

Something seems fishy about those.  Here are some NOS ones on my pile

Nothing "fishy" just another representation of the differences you can fin don service replacement parts when compared to assembly line parts or those same parts boxed and sold at or around the same time the cars were being built. Once that supply ran out Ford would contract (for some parts) out to another provider sometimes and get another version, those parts run out and the process takes place again and again

NOS/service replacement parts were the "king" in the 80-maybe 2000 when we started focusing closer on differences and details even more than before
