New to me doing a Mustang center console. The opening for the shifter is longer than the chrome floating ring on the shifter boot. Is that normal?

None from a great example or with the console removed but shifter and boot still in place like I hoped for but 68 examples with a peek into the installation. Could not let only 67 examples be posted

This is one of those cases where the carpet hole needs to be kept small so it fits tightly around the base of the rubber shift boot.

It weird as it shows chrome ring in assembly manual but we know how accurate those are (n't)

On the 68 version is the pebbly part of the console insert supposed to be black? Seeing black and chrome but neither verified original
In the assembly manual it shows a C8ZB 65045E18 AW trim that goes where the lower base contacts the dash. I can't find anything under a google search. In assembly manual pic it appears to be small u shaped gasket similar to seals used on quarter panel/headlight extensions?

Yep, pebble part should be black, more on the satin side (low sheen).


The trim pieces look like pinch on windlace, except one end is molded closed.  They are kind of hard to find.

Yes, it's at an angle with the edge of the console end.  I think regular windlace could be used and maybe silicone one end smooth.  Dye it afterward so the silicone doesn't stand out.

Do you think that removing some of the metal "supports" or staple looking reinforcements would help accomplish that?

Omigosh compared to most things we have to make those are easy lol

There are little slots in the base that those closed ends snap in
