Topic: Radio Opening Cover/Radio Delete

In consideration of a recent question thought it might be nice to have a thread showing the radio opening cover (Ford's term), more often referred to as the "radio delete panel or plate"

Since radios were not standard equipment and if you wanted one you paid for it the plates of covers were standard equipment. Is been mentioned before some dealers would intentionally order cars without radios so that they could up sell and make additional money on a car once it reached the dealership while advertising a lower "for sale" price.

In any case here we go

1969 Cover -   Believe that the same cover was used in 1969 and 1970 models.

For these cars there were three Mustang versions (black camera, early 69 woodgrain and later woodgrain)

The woodgrained covers were shaped differently from the black camera version as shown below

From the front its a simple small plastic plate that covers just the radio and know openings



Retained with a couple of P&O finished screws it appears

The attaching hardware for the radio delete cover/plate (pick a name) is documented in the 64-66 and 67-68 spreadsheets. The information came from the appropriate Mustang Assembly Manuals and matches the hardware information in Ford Car Parts (aka MPC, 75 edition) for 66 and 67, with 65 (and 64 by default) and 68 having no hardware referenced. The 1969 cover, C9ZB-6504302-N, is not referenced in the MPC (ref Body Sec 042, var pages).

Not deleted, just not ordered with a radio.

Sorry, you are correct. The cars would have been built to order without the radio, so technically a radio opening cover.

There is probably a stack of these covers in Germany if it was common place to put the covers on for every T5 built over all years.

For me this is the first European Export that I've seen without a radio. Just what I've seen
