6 cylinder Water Pump Mounting

OK, removing parts from my 200 6 cyl. to start regasketing, etc. Removed the water pump (3 bolts) and found that two of the mounting holes are tapped all the way through into water jacket around the pistons. Is this the way its supposed to be? or did someone use too long of bolts at one time when replacing the pump?

Don't know if the thru bolt holes are correct but can say mine was the same.  66, San Jose, 200ci and auto.   I did notice sealant on the bolt treads when I removed them so I put sealant on and in when I reinstaled.  My experience.  Brian

Thanks Brian. Mine had sealant on them too. When I look in the ford manual to see how to assemble a new water pump it doesn't mention anything about it. Which if it was designed that way you would think so. Anyway thanks again

perfectly normal there. i'd suggest running a tap into all the bolt holes to clean the threads before reassembly. use a non hardening sealer. do not use silicone..

Thats what I was thinking. When I pulled them they had silicon, but would be better with like a permatex non hardening sealer.

Yeah, It's pretty normal. The bolts go through into the water jacket.  All I can say is load up on the Permatex Ultra-Blue. That's what I've always done in the past, and have'nt had a leak yet.  I ran into the very same issue 15 years ago when I saw that one of my bolts was leaking.  I suggest that you change your all your bolts as well.  The original bolts fatigue and the diameters of the bolts get eaten away from the water over years of use.  I had all original bolts in mine.  They will go in a box, and all AMK fastners will go in their place. You really want to install new bolts here...Don't know what else to say.. I got new AMK Concours bolts for the water pump and the thermostat housing from NPD.. Good stuff...Enough said..
