67 GT500 dual point AUTOLITE distributor C5AF 12127 E ?

Hi all,
I have an Autolite dual point distributor for my 67#0348 and I have some questions.

What is the correct assembly line rotor, dual points, condenser and distributor coil wire please?

They needs to be all Autolite or FoMoco please?

What is the correct assembly hold down distributer bracket and the distributor cap clamps clips,they needs to be dark phosphate color or light phosphate color please?

Question and easy ones first

Are you looking for part numbers or description/pictures?

What is the correct assembly hold down distributor bracket and the distributor cap clamps clips,they needs to be dark phosphate color or light phosphate color please

Distributor cap hold downs can be seen here. You decide ;)  Found by searching "distributor finish"

Will most likely impact the answers and should be asked or included when posting as not everyone has a registry

It was completed 1/25/67 and shipped 1/30/67

The clips are dark but not black like the new repros.  I think zinc phosphate will get you there if the part is properly prepped.

Another close-up of the retaining clip that was posted before in another thread




On the FoMoCo verses AUTOLITE issue as far as how each (rotor & points) would be marked on a 67 I think its going to be a challenge determining when a change may have taken place during the production year. Old stock was likely used up on some lines (at the plant that assembled distributors) and stations while others received the new stock earlier. Guess we could look at and post assembly dates from original distributors and what was in them but as mentioned, the guy in the next bench may have had the earlier or later versions he was supplied with on that same day.

At this point I think you have the option of having either or even a mix unless someone has some solid documention or findings I'm not aware of.

Understand that your likely asking because you want to have the assembly as correct as possible since other than you will know for sure once its all together

How can I make that colour of the cap clamps clips please?
I think that they are light yellow.

We will try to find more information about the dual points, condenser, rotor, cap, distributor cap coil wire and the colour of the hold down bracket for the distributor.

We've discussed this in other threads but you may find that painting with a translucent paint in two sets get you the closest. The color on original dist in boxes I've got is a gold with a tint of green similar to finishes found on later PVS and Thermactor hose "t"s

I've used Eastwood dichromate rattle cans in gold and green for this purpose followed with protectant oil or a clear coat. Original finish was a plating and provided a very very thin layer of protection so don't cake on the paint or someone will take notice

As for the other parts "dual points, condenser, rotor, cap, distributor cap coil wire and the colour of the hold down bracket for the distributor."


Dist hold down "clamp" appears to have been phosphate and oil  (P&O) 


Coil wire is made from the same product/wire used to make the spark plug wire set with a 90 degree boot on one end and a straight boot on the other.

I would phosphate and oil the distributor hold down bracket , but can you tell me approximately if they were light grey or dark grey please?
