Hopefully I've been able to copy and paste the picture of the "Survivor on Ebay" '66 GT Convertible that was discussed earlier on here.....WHAT EXACTLY is the date code here? the "565", "AS-6", "UCC-M-20" anyone know for sure?

Well, I guess I couldn't take the picture by itself and post it here, its quite a ways down on the listing, its under the "detail pictures".......
Heres the link again, if anyone is interested....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1966-FORD-MUSTANG-GT-CONVERTIBLE-SURVIVOR-NO-RESERVE-/290537406678?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item43a56100d6

Thanks Charles!!-I didn't catch the car's scheduled build date.....how much before that would be right to date one? the standard 1-3 months?
Also, what are the other numbers? stuff for the dot I guess?--is there anything that identifies the window to a Ford product? is the "565" then May of 1965?

I don't know what all the other codes are.  I suppose they are manufacturer codes.  Dates are usually pretty close to the build date of the car.

"AS-6" is some kind of federally mandated designation.

Making a tool for this is fairly expensive.  I'm not sure that anyone will be stepping up to do this in the near future, especially since there were other versions/manufacturers to consider.

I have observed at least two other manufacturer's stampings used on 65-66 Mustangs.

Here is the early version:

When I said "stamp" I wasn't meaning a stamp like we use and have been descussing for such items as oil filters and paint ok, ect.....the original vinyl convertible windows were "stamped" into the vinyl using heat of some sort to actually "brand" the vinyl itself, not just ink or paint.

The VINYLITE was definately the most common, so it would make the most sense to repro that one.

Tony, Did you ever have any luck with Ecklers? I believe 2 of the key people there have left to pursue manufacturing Tri-5 Chevy bodies...........I've got a line on anouther Chevy outfit that seems to have the means to do this stamping and I'm going to check with them to see if their stamps are like our Ford ones...

Eckler's is 30 minutes straight up the road from me....Drive by it all the time..

I will have to give them a call...  I doubt heavily that they do it there.  I will have to "squeeze" the manufacturer name out of them. Should'nt be too hard.. I'll give it a shot. I will probably spend over an hour on the phone I am sure.

Thanks for this Charles!! It "looks" like an ink type stamp in the picture....is it? or were they all in fact heat stamped into the vinyl?
