70 Fender to Cowl Bumpers?
« on: November 01, 2021, 08:32:48 PM »
My cowl isn't flush with the fender and is lower closer to the windshield. I can move the cowl down when pushed near the windshield.  I saw these bumpers at a few aftermarket parts companies.  https://secure.cougarpartscatalog.com/fendcowlbump.html  These bumpers are not in the Ford body assembly manual, did ford use them?  My car does not have them and I am hoping to better align my cowl with the fenders.  Does this look like the correct place for them in the picture?  Can they be slide onto the fender lip (with the cowl removed) without taking the fender off?  Alan

Not sure if I've ever installed them on a car and that has created no fit problem for me. They may help lift the corner or corners of your cowl panel  and provide some support. moving them up and down the edge my allow for some adjustment also.

Believe that by loosening the last few fender to inner fender panel bolts would allow me to position and adjust these. Cheap enough to try though shipping will likely be more that the item  ::)

Let us know how it works out

I too purchased these but fitted the fenders on the car before I remembered I had bought them. The cowl was not yet installed cuz I was working on the wiper arm install. However, I could not find a way to easily install them even with loosening the rear fender bolts. If you find a way, please let us know!

My 70 Mach had these rubber bumpers when I disassembled it and I stil have them. I would think the foam blocks that stick to the cowl structure under the cowl vent would be what you need to support the sheet metal. I dont remember these rubber pieces supporting the cowl. I would think they could be slipped on the fender from behind.

I have not seen the rubber bumpers used on a 69. I do believe there were foam blocks stuck to the bottom of the cowl panel to support it.

Here is the description as written at the wccc site.  Pair of anti rattle spacers / guards that go between the fender and the cowl on each side. The majority of 1969 Cougars and Mustangs used a black foam block glued to the cowl but in late 1969 and all of 1970 these wedge shaped rubber parts were used. Replaces Ford part number C9ZZ-16758-A.

I finally purchased the bumpers and slid them on the fender lip.  They were a tight fit but assembled without loosening the fender.  I think they improved the alignment  of the cowl with the fenders.

Mine are still loose when pressing though but at least it is correct if by judge.

Might want to use a very small daub of weather strip adhesive on both sides of the cut out or even a very small trimmed (so it can be seen) section on each side of two sided tape to keep them in place.

What is a "cc" and judges for what organization are you referring to?

Just asking :)
