1967 GT500 3 Point Harness Repair

My drivers side 3 point Shelby harness won't retract or pull out. Anyone know of any repair shops for these? Thanks

Might want to try Python Restoration  (pythonrestoration.com) or one of the businesses that repair them for late 60's Corvette's as they are very similar in size and design

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I had the exact opposite experience . I just received some belts back from being restored  Oct/21 . My emails were answered ,phone calls returned and belts done and returned in a surprising timely fashion.

Keep trying.  Stewart did an amazing job on a set of 67 Shelby belts for me 2 yrs ago, and sold me a nice set of Chevy belts I put in a 63 Impala last year.  Like many small shops in our hobby, some periods had quicker response than others, but he always conscientiously tried to follow up.  A pleasure to work with and very high quality work.

I tried calling him again today as I learn more about my broken drivers side 3 point harness. I have attached a few pictures. It now looks like I will need to replace the black plastic cover as it only has 1 of the 3 attachment prongs. Also the retractor spring is missing. It won't rewind by hand although it does move back and forth a little. Who knows, the whole mechanism may need to be replaced. Does anyone make parts for these or do I need to look for them used? I may just wind up leaving it broken as a driver car anyway.

You may have to leave it broken. Have you had interaction with Stuart before that may explain the reluctance for him to respond to you while others have had success contacting ? If there is history like that then I would suggest having someone else correspond with him on your behalf. That is if you want to get it fixed. The reason I say this is because a conversation I had with him about two months ago long before your post where he mentioned how much business he had and what with the family Heath problems going on that he was not going to deal with difficult customers that interacted with him . Just saying but I don?t know if it applies or not. He is your best bet given his working knowledge of possible replacement donors etc. I am not saying there is not one out there but I am not aware of a donor replacement. If it was well know the info would have been shared by the Shelby community decades ago. Best of luck getting the problem solved.

I have never talked to Stuart before or had any contact with him. My only contact recently was a couple of phone calls where I left a vm explaining what the problem was.

I thought I had all my ducks in a row and then a shotgun blast blew the little critters away.

How screwed am I now that I can't find the passenger side black plastic cap and spring?

I was thinking of buying a 3D printer anyway.
Maybe I can take the driver's side, have it scanned, flip it in software and build it!
Or pay an outrageous sum that would equal the cost of a 3D printer!

The company that made these appears to has either faded away or been bought out.
The reel is either a helicopter or airplane part judging by the green paint.

One of my neighbors has three 3D printers (there's a lot of hi-tech toys in Silicon Valley). I've had several "things" printed (a Baby Groot, a Baby Yoda, a scan of a picture of a Boeing 314 Clipper flying over the Golden Gate bridge) and his response to some of my parts replicating requests is that the materials he uses are not strong enough (example of "no go": a wheel for a tennis ball cart; a gear for a chopping device), or they have a tendency to bend in the sun (sitting on a car dash). Yes, there are 3D printers that can print using aluminum and other metals, but the in between materials, like your plastic sheath, are still on the drawing board.

I am curious if Stuart at Python would be able to help because he has fixed others. Not knowing the exact problems he has fixed on the 67 Shelby inertia reels and how he has solved them makes it is hard to say for sure if he would be able to help or not. Maybe it is worth the call on the off chance before plunking done the money for the 3 D printer. ;)
