Washers on firewall for heater box support?
« on: October 23, 2021, 05:15:48 AM »
I was on Muscle Car Research and saw these washers (Ford C9ZA-19C624-A Washer Set). They are supposedly for extra support on the firewall to shore it up on 69-70.

I searched here and have looked at the unrestored pictures in the library to no avail (but I could have missed something).  What is the application for these? Different plants? AC etc?

Thanks

Here's a picture I received from Marcus Anghel that helped convince me of the need for these. I'm unsure of applications beyond what's already mentioned on my site.

The original engineering drawing describes the finish:

PAINT BLACK PER ESE-M2P10-A
24 HOUR SALT SPRAY MIN
OPT WITH PHOSPHATE COAT &
OIL PER SPEC ESF-M3P6-A.

Firstly the washers were only needed when the car was built with air conditioning. Apparently too help support the far right (passenger) side of the heavier heater/ac housing and all that was in it. And if not used the "punch out" on the firewall at that end would not be removed.

Same thing goes for the other slotted punch out towards the center of the firewall discussed before in another thread where this picture was posted showing that location

Thanks Jeff for the clarification on its purpose. I appreciate the pictures (that I could not find).

The earlier discussion was for 69's so can see where it might not have connected
