1979 Pace Car's came without the lettering. They where dealer installed , at the owners request.
So some of them are installed poorly
The letterings are side specific, because of the gas cap door.

As a owner of a restored 1979 Indy Pacecar I must say be careful of your new stripe kit. The horses are wrong with every kit on the market. The horses should be going from black and fading to a silverish color. I have had 2 kits where the horses were dark, light, dark, light in that order. The 3rd and 4th horses are reversed. I found a company who sells just the horses in the correct order to make the car concours correct. The company is called: Graphic Express and the website is: www.graphic-express.com  And the kit includes both sides and costs $59.95. Well worth the cost.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Wing is what was used on the rear quarter
partially on the gas door, it is a separate decal from the lettering.

I worked at a Ford dealer when they were new and yes the Official Pace car
lettering and the IMS wings were not installed at the factory. Also the front
air dam was not installed but in a big box in the car. The rear seat was folded
down and the passenger seat was folded partially forward for the box to fit in
the car.
