« on: September 25, 2021, 12:14:24 PM »
I'm in need of a T-10 rebuild kit. Kees supplies my top loader parts. Who is the goto for T-10?

I always buy my Toploader kits from David Kee but getting parts for the T-10 is a different story. It seems to me that different retailers are all selling the same parts. I rebuilt several T-10's a few years ago and I bought my kits from- (The Gear Box Transmissions Inc). Besides the rebuild kit I also ordered a cluster pin, reverse idler shaft, Torque Lock Slider sleeves and a thrust bearing. These additional parts are not included in any rebuild kits I have seen and I would consider them a must have when doing a rebuild on the T-10. I buy my Torque Lock Sliders sleeves on eBay from- (superior.auto.parts) because the cost is a lot cheaper. If you are rebuilding a 1966 transmission then you won't need the thrust bearing. The 1966 transmission is a one year only version that was based on a AMC transmission design and is completely different than the 1965 and older transmissions and it also requires a completely different rebuild kit.

I had no idea these were this tough to ID (without a tag and even then ...).

Case: T10H-1 (Ford case)
Case date: E25 (and a dot?)
Counter  Shaft: 7/8"
Extension housing: T10H-7B (std Mustang shifter location)
Shifter plate: T10-148B
Input: 10 spline
Input: Groove: 1
Output spline: Guess I should count this ...
Approx first gear: < 2.5
Number stamped into flat near mid plate (shifter side): F1653

Yes, I've visited many sites and confusion reigns there.

I might have to open the side cover and start counting teeth.

On edit after the K-HESS post:
I'm not married to this thing. It was going back into my Modified car after I fixed the decel shift pop out of 2. If you need a date code correct trans for your car I would trade for a Wide Ratio TL that needs a bearing and synchro rebuild!

Going by the numbers you provided the transmission is the 1965 and older version and will have a 25 spline main shaft. The assembly date is the F1653 number-June 16th 1965 3rd shift. The T10H case has the 8 bolt butterfly pattern. The earlier 4 bolt version has a case number of T10-B. The 1966 Mustang transmissions were the only ones built with a 28 spline main shaft. All earlier Mustang and Falcon transmissions use the 25 spline.

Thanks K-HESS.
Appreciate the info. You really need to know these transmissions or you can get lost (like me) real quick.

I just found the assy date decode right when you posted.
