1966 rear brake cable
« on: September 19, 2021, 02:52:15 AM »
Does anyone have a few pictures of a 1966 restored rear E-brake cable.  I would like to know which type of paint shade works best for the clip yellow paint.  The washer cherry red paint.  And I'm wondering which paint was used where the FoMoCo script is located, was it blue or black paint.  I have a Jan 66 200 C4 San Jose.

I heard that the blue paint was used on V8 and black on I6.  Don't know if that is correct.

I've just sprayed out some Krylon yellow. Not sure which one just use a strong yellow as shown in the picture below. Won't be seen but understand why your doing this

Guess you have Kelsey Hays backing plates. Not sure what mark your referring to at or around the FoMoCo script.  But black on black??

Have seen marks near the shoe adjusting hole but that is a long way from the script on those backing plate

I meant the FoMoCo script where the clip is located on the end of the front coil.  Should that part be blue or black paint.

This is from a NOS cable if that helps. The shade of blue is similar to 289 engine paint and not a heavy coat. I can't think of why there would be a difference between 6 and 8 cylinder motors.

Sorry missed the script mention :(

It's a blueish gray in color unlike IMHO engine color that appears to not be consistent in tint and tone but some examples might be close to some of the engine colors that are not correct but available in rattle can if you go that direction if you understand what I'm trying to describe. But was applied in a fairly thin quick messy application as mentioned

Here are two that show the variety of tones found on originals. Have found 67 versions more a true blue than 66's

since that is a service part most likely it is marked different that an assembly line part.

+1

Would rather rely on parts found and used on the cars originally than out of a box likely made years later. For some service prats it was sort of standard practice to paint bare steel surfaces to protect them from flash rusting while sitting on the shelf. Buyers didn't want to by rusty parts ;)

Service replacement rear leaf springs and front springs are a couple of often seen examples of this
