Power top
« on: September 18, 2021, 01:19:18 PM »
I have a 68 convertible with the power top. All the wiring is out of the car except for the power top wiring.
Is there some way to test to see if the power top works ?
Thanks,
John

I assume the power top is in the car with pump mounted with lines and is fluidized with type F trans fluid . If what you say is true about all of the power top wiring being in place then the black wire coming off of the switch is the lead that goes out to the power. Hook your 12v battery power to that and ground the pump with the negative. You should now be able to now test for function.

Bob,
I may have misled you. The switch is not in the car. I have the lead wire coming off the pump, one red and one yellow wire. The pump is grounded to the frame. I was hoping to put power to that lead, if possible.

You can. Putting power to yellow wire runs pump one way and power to the red wire the opposite way.
