65 2+2 passenger side rear fiberglass WITH speaker hole
« on: September 16, 2021, 03:28:21 PM »
This may sound weird, but I'm trying to find a well grained passenger side (aka Right) that already has a round 5" speaker hole in it. I want a really nice panel with no scratches, gouges or any other damage other than the speaker hole.
The PO of my car decided to sand mine. Egad :o.

This is going in my modified car and rather than take nice original no-holes off the market (along with the price!) I decided I was going to use speakers in the holes. Why not? This car is highly modified structurally and cosmetically so no big deal.
Plus I have to slot these as well for the 3 point harness.

It's 17 1/8" from the rear to the start of the 5" hole. You can gauge how close it is to the character line on the bottom.

I've shipped large boxes before so the shipping cost is rather high. But for a good panel ...

Send me a pic (bossbill the at sign and then add the comcast dot net bit).

Bill,
A "repair" technique to get some grain on fiberglass panels was to use a wet paint soaked sponge on the wet paint of the panel, dabbing as you went. It sometimes works well (even on outside stucco walls).

I've done small repairs to areas using a mold of a good area.
However, I'm in no mood to try that on something this large.

I've used spatter paint and it looks pretty good. It -- and the dozen of other products I've tried --  just don't look like a factory Ford piece.

I'm figuring someone out there has the Ford piece mutilated with said hole and would like it to go to higher purpose than the dump.
