Engine Bay Decal Placement 1970 Mach 1
« on: February 23, 2011, 04:12:26 PM »
Dear All,

small introduction, my name is Niels and I live in the south area of Holland and own a '70 mach1.

I'm restoring an 1970 Mach 1 with an 351 Cleveland 2V non shaker, as we speak.
I have done a lot of research on what decal's and so I would need.
In the past few month's I replaced and chance almost all parts underneath the hood to make it the good old factory look.
I have orderd several tags and decals but before I'm going to place them I would like to ask you guys for some good pictures or guide lines for where to put them.
Pictures or drawings would be realy helpfull:

I can add a picture of the decals and the engine bay soon but the car is not at my place at this moment.

First question (unless you provide it with the first post ;) is always - Where and when was the car built???

Also for this specific question did the car have AC?

Hopefully you didn't purchase one of the "kits" since they often include decals that are not correct - on certain cars we often (owners buying the kit first) don't use almost half the decals included in them.

Oh - forgot - welcome to the site

Hello,

My car was built at the San Jose plant and had an airco from factory but is no longer installed.
I bought a kit but not the kit that is for sale on every corner.
I will take a picture of the decals I have as soon as I can, and ofcource it is no problem if I don't have to use some of them if those I have to use are on the right place ! :D

Do you happen to know when the car was assembled at San Jose? If not possibly the first four numbers of the sequential numbers? Ex 0R05M1234xx

Here you go - hope it helps

Vacuum routing "T" at firewall

Passenger side of engine compartment

Battery check decal (purple arrow) You'll likely get a decal for the voltage regulator and coil though both were originally ink stamped NOT decals (yellow arrows)

Drivers side engine compartment

Air cleaner decal (yellow arrow), Air filter service decal  make sure your reproduction has the filter ID number in the lower left corner (light green arrow), timing decal - found in one of two slightly different locations - see below also (red arrow), service spec decal notice orientation (dark green arrow)

The "T" decal is a long black and white (well most of it) decal that attaches to the face of the black plastic hose tee shown in the picture. The decal helps with the correct attachment of certain hoses

"the paint check decals, are they also part of the engine bay ? "

No paint decals were used at San Jose (or NJ) as they were at Dearborn

Thanks for the paint decal's question, I was under the impression that every plant used their.
I believe that what I know now, I have in "stock".
I'll make sure I keep you posted as soon as the vihicle comes back to me

Yes that one

btw, these decals, are they pure fantasy or right aswell

Have pictures of 70's with the larger air cleaner decal we often see at shows- Just don't have any original cars built at the time yours was and at San Jose with that one - only the other one I posted. That is one of the reasons we ask ;)

These guys are one of the two major decal manufacturers for Mustangs, I actually prefer their products.  The site has some info on many of the decals, like placement, etc., a good free reference to start with (I'm not saying their always right, just that its a good place to start):
