70 door panel markings
« on: August 25, 2021, 09:18:46 PM »
I saw a similar thread for 65 and 67, so figured we might keep the odd pattern going...  Correction, this is from a 1970 Mach 1.

Any info on the car that it came from?  I'm betting its a San Jose built car.

This is from the 1970 Mach 1 door I picked up at the junkyard.  The car is long gone - there are seven 69 Mach 1's but no 70's left.

Same door as the cladding shown in this link: https://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=25284.0

I included here a few date stamps from the inner door structure.  I've got nothing else to offer other than by default I assume that any Mustang here in Michigan was assembled in Dearborn, and want to see evidence to prove otherwise.  Looks like you have just that - thanks.

Guess I'm missing something but what evidence indicates the build plant?

We split the topic from the 69 stuff so we're now missing some findings and have not gotten additional 70 examples. The thought is, like many parts, multiple suppliers were used by Ford and usually one supplier supplied Dearborn and and NJ while another San Jose. Shocks being one of those examples. This does not mean that in some situations a produced typically produced and supplied to one plant could not be redirected (one shipment for example) to a second plant if the usual supplier could not provide the part at that time

In the 69 thread I showed the inspection mark of two different suppliers confirming the multiple suppliers that year. Just going through the steps to see if we can determine, by inspector, patterns of writing on the inside surface and even handwriting we can determine where the car was built that the door panels came off of.

Couple of pictures I could in my collection

70 Dearborn deluxe panel - 0F1102xx

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

70 San Jose deluxe panel - 0R1328xx Red and black numbers

70 San Jose standard door panel - 0R1577xx. Guess at this point we can't assume that the supplier for the Deluxe panels was the same as the standard
