Topic: 1970 Antenna

My car has an incorrect replacement antenna from Ford circa 1980.  It has many incorrect features such as the antenna is tear drop, incorrect small cowl grommet that fits inside a larger grommet, and no (2) crimped plastic cable retainers.  I would like to replace it with an OEM antenna design. If there was an genuine OEM antenna available at a reasonable price, it would be great. If not I have been looking at a Scott Drake (concours repro) antenna https://www.npdlink.com/product/antenna-radio/211561  and just saw a Daniel Carpenter replacement antenna that is supposed to be MCA approved.  https://johnsmustang.com/products/1969-1970-mustang-radio-antenna-concours-o-e-m-mca-approved?variant=25081691209792  Has anyone evaluated these to http://anghelrestorations.com/uploads/3/1/7/6/3176630/antennas_v1.1.pdf ? For a fast first comment and without taking the time right this moment to compare would like to inform you and others there are not MCA approved parts. That was a program the club had many decades ago but some sellers still find it useful (we all know why) for them to still include in the ads and listings. Just a heads up.

Thanks for the input. Looks like false advertising to me. The Daniel C antenna pictures show the assembly missing the upper clip.  HaHa....

That page is in the 1970 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual (AM0033) pg 53. The manual is a good reference.

Thanks for the info.  The assembly drawing is very helpful.  I didn't think to look in the manual.  I wonder if the S clips 376118-S are still in my car? AMK does make repro clips.  Alan

I purchased the 69-70 Scott Drake concours antenna. I haven't installed it yet but I thought I would provide initial observations as compared to the Marcus Anghels V1.1 OEM antenna guide.  My opinion is as follows.  The design of the antenna seems to be an accurate representation of the OEM antenna. The OEM design features without a measurement comparison seem to good. The cover material is incorrectly made from stainless steel. The crimped metal retainers on the two cable attachment assemblies are made from stainless steel.  I think the original clips were zinc plated steel.  The four screws are 1 inch in length and made of stainless steel.  The OEM screws were 1/2 inch long and had S36 plating.  All product markings are not present.  In my opinion this is not concours but a decent repop. Improvements could be as follows; The correct screws are available at home depot.  The cover could be chrome plated. I hope this is helpful for someone that cant find a good OEM antenna.  It's way better than what I current have, so hopefully it installs ok.  Alan

The Scott Drake antenna assembly and the coax extension cable installed without a glitch. I polished the cover to a mirror finish to simulate chrome.  Overall I am pleased with this product.  Sure its not original but it is a big improvement over the Ford supplied replacement antenna that it replaced.  Have a great day.  Alan
