Power steering ram bracket
« on: July 15, 2021, 12:15:56 AM »
All the articles I searched,  it doesn't say what the finish is for the ps ram bracket. Is it a natural?

It is bare cast iron.

Blasted natural will not give the correct appearance.  I usually like to dunk these for about 15-30 seconds in phosphate and soak in oil for 24 hrs.

How about more detail, like the type of phosphate, the percentages of the mix, temperature, oil type.

Another alternative is that after blasting you liberally coat them with Eagle 1 chrome wheel cleaner. Let the foam sit on the part for a couple minutes. The mild acid in the foam will change the appearance to some what closer to the appearance of fresh cast iron. After washing off dry with a towel dry .If you blow dry it will flash rust. I take a torch and heat up the metal to get the moisture out. After it cools I will coat with your go to rust inhibitor (T9 in my case). Not meant to be the ultimate answer but a quick and relatively easy process to get a closer look to original compared to out of the cabinet bead blasted.
