Should the gas tank be painted ?

I am about to paint my December 65 Dearborn convertible and the current gas tank is not painted
I'm certain that is was replaced by previous ownership.
Should the tank be painted ?

No gas tanks were never painted

The fuel sender may not function on a painted tank

+1. only parts installed prior to paint were trunk lid & doors. rear valance panel loosely bolted on. other parts painted off of car. a search here will give more info.

Original finish was "Long Ternes" a tin and lead based combination used for the coating

Search feature can be a challenge to use at some times but other times it can find you threads and answers

I just received a new reproduction C5ZZ tank.  It's powder coated gray all over. Not pleased with it!

should have used NPD or virginia classic mustang. their tanks have the appropriate finish.

I may still be using them. This one's not going to go in anything I am working on.
