My car has been painted twice, the 2 bolts and plate (on each door) for adjusting the rear height are body color. Looking through the unrestored pictures it appears they should have metallic finish.  The hardware spreadsheet description for the window / door hardware was unclear to me.  So are these parts zinc with clear chromate?  Alan

So took a look at the pictures I have where the finishes are visible. To start the plates IMHO were likely plated with possibly phosphate to protect against rusting by the supplier. This would also make a good base to paint over also. When I've found plates that were not painted body color they often appear (when not covered completely with rust) plated on one side and painted black on the other. Of course the worker could install them so that either surface was visible even though their was likely a finish that Ford wanted to be visible

In a survey of a small sampling its interesting that the cars with plates painted body color and those that were not formed a pattern suggesting the possibility of a running change on how Metuchen addressed the finish(s) on these plates

Retaining bolts throughout the year appear to be a zinc or cadmium finish

My car is 0T1190xx. Based on the consecutive build numbers you listed, my plates were likely body color.  I adjusted the height so some of the paint came off the bolts and it appears to be zinc plating underneath.

Does anyone have two spare 1/4 20 x .50, .75 dia disk washer 7/16 hex bolts?  They are zinc plated and have three dashes at 9,12 and 3 with NL in the center. Per the attachment,  disregard the black longer bolt on its side.

I may, but most of my hardware is identified by part number. Look in this Forum's Library under "Mustang Hardware Spreadsheet 69-70", the file by application (MHW69-70AP06.xlsx) for the number.
