Assembly line brake booster check valve
« on: June 26, 2021, 07:31:29 PM »
I am looking for a picture of a 1968 Midlands assembly line brake booster check valve. I have found some that were white and thought they were service parts.

They are white originally. Since the booster, master cylinder, spacer and check valve were all painted black originally - together - many believe the valves should be black, however on the assembly line they were painted.

That is a typical 67 style SJ Midland check valve. The 68 Metuchen check valves are different shaped.

Your picture is more typical of the shape that the 68 Metuchen Midland check valve looks like. Notice the mold tang or what ever in the center of the check valve.

The original cars that I have the booster check valve photos of (about a half dozen) are February through July Dearborn cars.

There are two assembly line styles used in 68 NJ assembly. The first was white and it was painted black with the booster. The second type is black and has the word "Manifold" embossed on it. It is typically unpainted.

The white painted valves are earlier and the black ones appear later in the year. I put the change over sometime around April

Early style (black paint is visible)

Later style

Thank you very much gentlemen, there is always something to learn in this hobby. Our car was built 02-12-67 so the white painted black it is.

Marty

My 4/29/68 Dearborn CJ booster valve was black, it was not painted. I know this because one day it came apart like a three dollar watch. All the pieces were black.
