So if I am understanding correctly, this transmission code 9d142707 appears to be out of a pick up truck?

Dallas also built full size Ford and Mercury cars in that time period. So the case and the servo came from that plant originally. Likely some big transmission shop like AAMCO swapped it out and kept the original one as a core. Such things were common back in the 1970's when there were fewer varieties of transmissions those big shops could keep a rebuild ready to go on the shelf and swap transmissions while the customer waited.


If you wanted to use that VIN and pay $25 you could get a Marti report that would tell you exactly what it was when it was new.

It says that the Dallas plant closed in 1970, and the "D" is Ohio.
No matter how hard we try, the transmission is still not original.

The trans is from a 1969 Ford something built at the Dallas plant. Of course, not original to a Mustang of any sort.

Lots of good information and pictures on that link. I can confirm the part about the machined step in earlier cases. I wish I could tell you when Ford started machining all the cases without that step.
