Correct tie rod sleeves
« on: May 30, 2021, 10:17:18 PM »
Does anyone make a correct tie rod sleeve.  Seen some online that are close with the wrong nuts and bolts.

Clean up the originals?

There are some close looking repro's sleeves but they are too long. No one I am aware makes a correct tie rod sleeve let alone the nuts ,bolts and clamps. The nuts ,bolts and clamps are relative easy to find in good enough condition to restore . The sleeves on the other hand are much harder to find that are nice enough to restore. Wrench marks and pits are the typical problems.

Those same sleeves were used on a number of Ford products. Go to the library and locate "Ford Car Parts" (aka MPC) and look up base number 3310 in the steering section.

Same sleeves used 65-70 V8 . Later versions and replacements were contoured down the length.  Pictures on unrestored cars after 50+ years will no doubt not show the proper finish given they were bare steel from the assemblyline. They rusted easily.
