'65 convertible dash brace fasteners
« on: October 02, 2009, 12:19:35 AM »
Starting at the same time the engine braces were added to the engine bay on '65 convertibles, a tubular brace was also mounted under the dash.  It extends from the pedal support over to under the glove compartment.  I can't seem to recall which fasteners were used for this brace.  I was pretty good about tagging/bagging and even making notes about fastener sizes and markings, but I overlooked this one.  On the connection at the pedal support, I think it's a hex head bolt with captured tooth washer and a flange nut on the back.  Under the dash, I don't recall, but think it was something similar.  I know that there should be 2 washers between the bracket as it was a carry-over part from some other Ford.  If anyone has a '65 convertible built after around mid-November '64 and has the braces, I would appreciate if you could post a couple pics of the fasteners that attach the under dash brace.  Or, just describe them to me.

Thanks!

Don't know if this helps as mine is a May 66 Convertible. Bolt to Pedal support is 1/4" bolt 7/8" long w/Caputured lock washer with serrated flange nut. Bolt to dash is 1/4" bolt 1 1/2" long w/captured washer and standard nut. 7/8" bolt had RBW on head. 1 1/2" bolt just circle with 3 hash marks on perimeter of circle on head. No addtional washers on dash just the thick square spacer.

Yes I know I'm suppose to be working on the Judging stuff - but does this help. From the TSB article  - included with the underhood tubular support additions to the new Mustang. Believe Ford messed up with at least one of the measurements of where the pedal support hole goes but you guys with these cars will have to confirm that. (11/16 64)

Of course this brace may be for retrofitting earlier units that were produced without the support.

Not something your going to see at them other sites ;)

Thanks for the replies.  The pics by twilight help a lot and are what I remember from other convertibles I've restored.  Thanks!
