C4 transmission mount
« on: May 05, 2021, 09:33:05 AM »
I am looking for pictures of a original C4 transmission mount. I think they had a paint slash on the front or back. I have a NOS C6 one that has a green paint slash on it.

I have seen the C6 mount which is the same for 4 speed as red paint mark not green. At least on assemblyline mounts.

Wouldn't you mount usually have a C8 part number?

believe he is referencing the type of transmission not the part/engineering number.

Don't have record of the engineering number on either of the two following examples but in the picture you have a C4 (on left) and a 4 speed (on right). Both show signs of blue paint on the rear surface. Can't be certain but they do both match and appear to be possibly originals

Do have NOS C8 examples with different colors and different engineering numbers on those. Hove other mounts with green, red, yellow, white

The smallblock trans mount is the same regardless of if four speed or auto . The engineering number started out with C4 in 65,66,and 67 and changed to C8 in 68.

Thanks for the help. I remembered I parted out a 68 coupe with a C4 transmission and I still have the C4. The crossmember and insulator mount was still on it, had blue paint. That was good conformation with Jeff's pictures.

The original on my car is a C4ZA6068 A. The build date of the car was  12-02-67. Do you think that they had not started using the C8 part number by then?

I will post pictures of my original and the big block mount that I have.

Marty I think that there was a typo because the build date of your 68 would not be Feb 12 1967

I suppose it is possible . I would expect to see the C8 engineering number on the mount. Others may think differently

Looking at a Feb 68 printing of the MPC it shows a change in the transmission mount from the early C5-A (C4) mount to the new C8-D mount on 12/15/67

Great, I was going to pull the one from my parts car tonight and start over. I thought the C5-A one appeared to be original to the car but you never know. Thanks

Now a mention should be made (since the application in the first post was only for a C4 application that what I posted in Reply  #10 was for 289 applications. For 302 4V application the same MPC list the service replacement (possibly the assembly line part also since production was still going on) as C8

Jeff: When did Ford start using the C6ZA-6068-A?

Don't know at the moment. By 68 the MPC had possibly combined 289 applications and shows the C5ZZ-6068-B for 289 2V & 4V and the -C for Hipos through mid 67 production (11/1/66)

So many cars have had their's replaced and so often we don't record  or look for the casting/engineering number on the mounts (engine or transmissions)

Do have examples of 68 and 67's still using C4ZA marked ones but have seen and have pictures of the C6ZA ones just no records (VINs) of what cars they were removed from currently

Must have been some reason to go from the C4ZA to the C6ZA mounts but they look identical maybe the strength or durability of the rubber between the two.

The C4 mark mounts are by far the most prevalent of the C4/C6 marked mounts observed on car as well as junk yard ,swap meet etc. I see the C4 used on the vast majority of 67's for example.  I don't know ether why the on again off again usage.
