1970 fastback trunk lid adjustment

 I have just fitted a new trunk lid to my son's 70' Mach I. The fit is actually quite good from previous repop trunk lids, guess they are getting better. Anyway, is there a way to move or offset the deck lid from left to right? I can no longer adjust the quarter ends caps to fix this. Looks like I need to shift the trunk lid from right to left about 1/8 - 1/4 of an inch so both gaps are pretty even. Is there an adjustment I am missing for this? Otherwise it opens and shuts great!

Have same problem, inherent to 1969/1970 sportsroof bodies only, there is no Left to Rt or Rt to left adjustment on either the hinges or body mounting brackets. Only way I know to correct this side-side misalignment is placing shims between hinges and body mounting brackets, don't recommend trying to bend the hinges or body brackets to force fit alignment

This sounds crude, just open it about 1/3rd open and give it a good quick shove from the side towards the bigger gap. If it's not painted you can, while partially open, pry it over with a piece of wood. Either way, just use baby steps,  they usually don't take a lot to move.

This sounds crude, just open it about 1/3rd open and give it a good quick shove from the side towards the bigger gap. If it's not painted you can, while partially open, pry it over with a piece of wood. Either way, just use baby steps,  they usually don't take a lot to move.

+1 Shims aren't factory and the trunk lid provides allot of leverage

I usually dont disagree with you, Jeff. But during the disassembly of my 70 Mach which from all evidence I saw had never had the body panels removed I found shims. They look like the shims used between the upper control arm and the shock tower under one side of the cowl panel and the fender on the same side.

Sorry I thought the discussion was focused on the trunk lid and in this case the attachment of the trunk hinge to uni-body. Was not referring to elsewhere on the body

I had the benefit of some really nice original sheet metal in my 1969 BOSS 302. I also had a really great body guy doing the painting and body work. I was visiting my car when it was in primer and the decklid was definitely off to one side. I asked him how he was going to adjust it and he pulled out a 4' 2x4 and started to show me. I was a little surprised...he said "Walk outside for a minute." I came back in and everything was aligned. Yep, adjusted it with the 2x4. Decklid it's what they do.

Wasn't meant that way just refocusing on the trunk issue rather than shims used elsewhere, but since you asked have been dealing with a nonresponsive insurance claim adjuster that has not talked to me in three months and stuff us off since October so the houses lower floor is riddled with half the sheet rock missing ass to that a hospital stay over Christmas.
