66 San Jose C code accelerator bellcrank assembly
« on: April 10, 2021, 04:38:12 PM »
Are there any discernable factory markings on an accelerator bellcrank assembly which can confirm an OEM part?

Rust?
Are you talking about carburetor linkage? 66 does not use a "bellcrank" type. There is an arm welded to the accelerator piece that goes down to an AT for downshifting.

No markings but side by side some reproductions (have been made now for about 30 plus years) are formed differently from the originals

My 65 has this mark on the back of the bellcrank.

I make no claims 66 are the same, but it is a place to look.
Near the top single hole is the mark M-S. This same vendor stamp is found on other original Ford parts.

From the "1966 Comet, Falcon, Fairlane and Mustang Shop Manual", a drawing of the linkage for all 289 CID V-8 engines with an automatic transmission. Included is the drawing for the 200 CID I-6 engines. The 6 cylinder uses a traditional "bell crank" method for the carburetor. It's "complicated". There is an arm welded to the accelerator shaft to control downshifting an AT. Manual transmission cars do not have the arm.
The Shop Manual is another must have document in your library.

My 66 also has the M-S stamp on the firewall mounting bracket yet is not tapped for the 1/4-28 pedal mounting screw. I'm assuming it's a repop.

The screw is special in that it threads into the gas pedal, and pivots on the accelerator arm.

I ordered the screw from AMK.  Should arrive today sometime yet I do not have anything in which to screw it. The replacement bellcrank pivot I purchased (supposedly OEM) is not tapped at the pedal location to accept the shouldered 1/4-28 screw.  All I really need is the kickdown arm so I think I'll just cut it off the replacement POS and weld it onto my existing pivot assembly which currently does not have one present (I'm guessing that it was from a donor car with a MT).

The pedal is tapped. Got that? The pedal. The screw rocks back and forth in the hole in the arm. Have you got a gas pedal? Look at it.
Jim
There is also a spring and a spring nut.

The drawing from the "64-65 Mustang Chassis Assembly Manual" shows the way it's put together in the upper right hand corner. The "optional construction" at the lower middle is for the stainless trim ring. 1966 pedals are the same as 64-66,  the arms are slightly different.
If you don't have a set of these manuals, I recommend you get a set.

Gas pedal is not tapped on my application (OEM pedal). Pedal pivots on the shoulder of the 1/4-28 screw which is fastened to & through the pedal arm.

Checked the gas pedal spares I have and none are threaded.  There are threads on the crank arm.

As is the one installed on my 66 (which I'm modifying/replacing to include the AT kickdown arm).
