Heater Hose Routing
« on: February 10, 2011, 10:21:15 AM »
Would anyone have a picture or 2 of the correct heater hose routing on a July (or close)(Dearborn) '65 K code? I am seeing several variations.....I know the A & C codes are different because 1 runs through a bracket on the carb for the choke cap. also looking for pics in the area of the strap that holds the hoses. Thanks!

I am active over on the Hipo forum as well and Charles has been kind enough to send me some pictures of a few installations that will help me correctly route my hoses-(both through the strap that is attached to the export brace) my observations have been that the engines were originally dropped into the cars on the line "fully dressed" with ignition wires, alternator, coil, ect, and evedentally the heater hoses were installed into the cars prior, so they WERE on top of the plug wires.........I know the reproduction heater hoses come in 8' lengths but not having measured mine I know that each hose is a different length-you don't just cut the hose in half and use 4' for each-the one that goes to the water pump IS longer....anyone know THE CORRECT measurement?

Sometimes the MPC gives the length for hoses, will check the 65 and 66 versions when I get home later.

I found this pic on my computer.  Not sure where I got it from, but I think it is correct.  I'm sure someone will know where it came from or if it is correct:

Looks right except the intake hose usually goes to the carb choke on a 289.

Thanks guys for the info and diagram. Mine is a Hipo 289 so mine will need to be routed just a bit differently.
I think I can figure out a more correct length/routing from what I have, pictures that Charles sent, and this diagram.
Charles-I'd appreciate what ever you have to offer in the way of measurements though.

For K codes there was (if I recall correctly) a change in the routing of the heater hoses - to correct an issue so there would have been an early and a late routing

Will have to see if I have the TSB handy

Sorry messed up - looked for the TSB article and it turned out it was the routing of the starter cable not heater hoses :(

OK, Thanks Jeff!!  So I am correct in routing my heater hoses ON TOP of the plug wires, BOTH through the strap that is attached to the export brace, coil sitting straight up vertical, water pump hose being slightly "pinched" by the coil.

Can I tack on anouther much talked about question about hoses?: HOW should the upper radiator hose clamp be positioned? mine is presently installed with the screw/tower positioned straight up....I have seen many turned about 1/4 towards the battery.......

Since this a result of a specific worker lets try  - when and where was your car built? In that way we can look at cars from then (may not get cars from the same worker but we have few other options).

Looks like we lucked out. From one of Mike Murry's original cars built just before the period (close as I can get) your car was built

Hope it helps
