Convertible Trunk Bolt Finish

Since the trunk wasn't painted on the car at Dearborn, what would the bolt finish be for a convertible. I've seen painted bolts, black oxide and one of each on cars.

the trunk was absolutely installed prior to painting. so the bolts were also body color. where did you get that idea??? sounds like you have looked at too many improperly restored cars.

For 1969 Shelbys you may be referring to the hinge to decklid bolts. Since the decklids were installed after the cars were built, some bolts were left unpainted.

guess i did not notice what section he posted in. he does not give enough info in his signature or state what car in his post. i was not thinking shelby's.

The bolts were installed in the end of the hing arms to hold the insert in place so it would not get lost or fall down in the arm. How far up the trunk hinge determined which bolt heads got body color. Some or all. Of course these were removed and reinstalled once the trunk lid was installed as Pete wrote so they didn't always go back in the same hole

69 shelbys had all metal decklids  painted on the cars at dearborn  then  removed at aosmith when fiberglass shelby decklids was installed. I got some take off decklids left as they were floating around detriot swap meets back in the 80s and many were dented up from being throwed around over the years.

I think when the metal decklids were removed early on at aosmith they reinstalled at least 1 body color bolt back in the hinge to hold that inner nut bracket in place till the new shelby fiberglass decklid. I have seen these bolts different ways body colored and phosphate and small and large slip washer type and u would think the original body colored bolts would have stayed with the car but for some reason some didnt.
