1968 42 AMP alternator restoration
« on: March 06, 2021, 11:57:04 AM »
25 years ago I restored the W code. Back then things were much different than now, I simply got a rebuilt alternator from the local auto part store. For some reason I kept the original and sacrificed the core charge.

Which was good. A friend recently got a bunch of new 1980's Motorcraft 60 amp alternators from a Ford dealer. I used the armature, brush holder, bearings and field coil from that alternator. I bead blasted my original case. Got a new pulley and fan from Jack at Dead Nuts On. It turned out pretty well I think. Originally it would have had an orange ink stamp with the word AUTOLITE and the amperage / voltage specs.
