Question about correct wheel and caps
« on: March 05, 2021, 11:56:38 PM »
Good afternoon, all. I have a 1967 K sedan that was built in Metuchen on March 22. It has the GT equipment group - standard for all HiPo cars. My Marti report calls out F70-14 wide oval tires but nothing about wheels or caps. I am trying to determine what would be the correct wheel and caps for this car. I assume since styled steel wheels nor wire caps were not called out it would have the standard 67 full wheel covers? I have searched this topic on this forum, but I want to know if the opinions have clarified any over the past few years. Also, what would be the consensus on wheel width?

First, welcome to the Forum !

To answer your questions, consensus is not really needed on these, just facts. If Wide Ovals were ordered, they "{automatically came with 6" steel wheels ; unless the Styled Steel Wheels were also ordered, in which case you got 5-1/2" wheels (4-1/2" wide wheels were Standard for 6 cylinder cars, and 5.00" for V8's).

As for Wheel Covers, the 9-5/8" or 10-1/2" hub caps were Standard on Coupes and Convertibles, and on the Fastbacks, the full Wheel Cover was Standard (see attached). This full Wheel Cover (as well as several other Full Wheel Covers) was Optional on Coupes and Convertibles.

Hope this helps.

Since you have a Metuchen assembled car, there is a good likelihood of finding the build sheet behind the instrument cluster and/or other locations.  This should provide proof-positive of wheel type and wheel cover.  I would expect it to align with what Bob posted.

Thanks for the information. There is no build sheet as the car was partially disassembled when I received it. I have a set of dig dishes, so I am in good shape. Would the wheels be body color or black?

If your car came with the dog dish style hub caps the rims would have been painted body color.
