Date on 66 bumper
« on: March 02, 2021, 10:45:31 PM »
My 66 SJ K CODE GT has a date of 4 8 M3 on the front bumper, I am assuming it is a service replacement from  April 8th M3, being 1973? I assume this after looking in the library for date coding.

Yes, most likely 73, or maybe 83.

Not sure, but does not the M3 indicate Monroe Stamping plant, 3 shift?

Lots of previous discussions on this here.

On original cars, the number appears to correspond to the model year.

Would it be a stretch that a bumper dated 3 26 M5 could have been at the bottom of a rack of assy. line bumpers and was finally used in months later assembly? 11/08/65 San Jose. Possibly was in the wrong staging area for some time?

Yes.  A bumper dated over 7 months prior would be a stretch.

......................... Possibly was in the wrong staging area for some time?

A single bumper would not be laying around. Think the statement above may be a stretch to make things fit rather than reflect common practices and patterns
