Hello!

My 69 San Jose CJ was actually built on 12/19/68. Here is the block casting date.

8J23

Also not sure what to make of the vin stamping on the block.

Funny how our build and block dates are both 9 days apart.

Regarding the VIN stamping, can you share your consecutive unit number? It will be the last six digits of you VIN

I would have to do a little more research, but its not out of the possibility, the stamping maybe "9R120470"

Hello!

Here is the block casting date.  8J23

Funny how our build and block dates are both 9 days apart.

With the tens of thousands or more engines and cars built it was bound to happen. At first I thought you meant that there was 9 days between your real assembly date (car) and the block casting date. That would likely be impossible given where your car was built

Can you confirm that at least the majority of the VIN on the block matches your car?

If in the attached photo is 120470 then everything matches on the car.

I'd definitely agree with "9R120470".  You can easily see...

Maybe 3,5,6,8,9 or 0 / something / then the bottom of a 1 or 7 / definitely bottom of a 2 / maybe 3,5,6,8,9 or 0 / definitely bottom of a 4 / bottom of a 1 or 7 /  maybe 3,5,6,8,9 or 0.

The obvious known digits line up perfectly with 9R120470, and the "not sure" digits are pretty easy to match up once you know the VIN digits to compare with.

Very cool!  Seems like the OP has a great example to match his date codes to as well!

Thanks Rezzato for the dates you provided. That is encouraging to know there is nearly a full 3 month gap between your block casting date and the actual build date of your San Hose CJ. Thank you for the feed back.
