Center console camera case finish paint
« on: January 27, 2021, 02:23:55 PM »
I’m in the process of restoring the center console from my 68 convertible and need some recommendations on what type of paint to use for the center insert which has a camera case finish. Should it be satin black or I was reading another post recommending VHT wrinkle paint. Or should it be something else? I attached a picture of the center cushion and insert.

It would have been a version of semi gloss black. No need for a wrinkle paint since the surface had a texture that they would have wanted to be visible on the final product

Thanks Jeff. I was pretty sure that was the answer. Thanks for the quick response.

I'd prefer more to the satin side.  Most interior bits were intentionally dulled down starting in '68.

Thanks Charles.  I guess I was under the impression that semi-gloss and satin were pretty much the same, but actually I was panning on using satin black.

Thanks for the help on this. Used the satin black and it came out looking great. I have a bit of pitting in the chrome, so I may replace the insert some time in the future but I?m very pleased with the result.

It looks nice.

Do you have the inserts for the seat belt pockets?

No one reproducing them?  Thought that would have been something one of the places would have

I could be wrong but I do not think they have been reproduced.

Sure.  I used Rust-oleum automotive primer and satin black enamel.  It lays down nicely.

Not sure that I would have used primer for this application - too easy to fill but surely reduced the affect of the grain somewhat at least. Factory just laid on a coat of the black but hope your choices met your expectations. Just a note for those considering the process in the future
