I recall a self tapping hex head bolt being used/ Inserted from below. Head had a hex head that was shaped into a thin washer like base. Sorry just what it looked like. Illustrated section of the MPC shows no nut being used on the 390 or other application styles. The Hardware spead sheet in the Library may have it listed

Will see if I have a clear picture

+1 . Flange head self tapping bolt .There is no nut because the bolt was self tapping into the metal of the bracket.

Found some

Don't normally post pictures of/from restored cars  (top example) Both provide a better picture of the head design

The bolt has a part number. It can be found in the Library Section of this forum under topic "67-68 Mustang Hardware Spreadsheet" in the file identified as - MHW67-68-AP06.xlxs which is sorted by application. The "application" is "Power Steering Hose Clamp Bracket-Clamp". I'll let you follow thru. Yes, it is available at AMK.

The bolt is P/O from the factory and not plated zinc or cad like some of the pictures may suggest.

Some of the pictures of the U section would suggest either gold dichromate over zinc or painted. Another is bare or very light zinc.
I thought it was supposed to be bare...

If your referring to the bottom picture I posted and the example in the upper left that is a reflection (light reflecting off the polished tile floor from behind)  that makes it look at way. If you follow the section of the bracket to the left  and as the bracket in the shiny area as it folds at the front) you will see it was semi-gloss back like the other sheet metal section of the assembly

All four I posted were all painted the same finish along with dozens more in my picture collection and more in person on original cars

+1. Originally from the factory they were painted semi gloss black.

It's been so long since I did mine I forgot which finish I applied!

This post lead me to second guessing ...

Dont for get the often neglected other 67 powering steering hose clamp used on the steel tube part of the hoses just before they enter the control valve.

So that there is no confusion for those reading ,that is the style clamp used on early 67 production. The later style 67 Clamp used at the control valve was the worm drive clamp used through 68 69 etc.

Any idea what the changeover date was, Bob?
I wonder if my Early March is "late".
A friend has an early May which I believe qualifies for "late".

And yes, I'm making the assumption this was general Ford/vendor change and applied to all cars with power steering.

My "guess" is that the change over was before March 67.
