Topic: Console glue recommendation.

My console on my 66 vert has a small section that has broken off on the side otherwise the console is in excellent shape. I would like to repair this and wondered what everybody else was using. Used JB weld on a 68 with mixed results. Saw an older post about using Plastex and another using heat method.  Recommendations or advice appreciated. Thanks

did you just glue the edge or did you have a backup piece inside the console? i have used jb with good success after a thorough cleaning.

X2 I use JB Weld it works fine on this application.

I used it on the edge with extra in the back. Are you using regular JB weld or JB weld plastic?

I prefer marine epoxy, but use a small "backing doubler" because if it "went" once - well, you understand.

Used JB weld on a 68 with mixed results. Saw an older post about using Plastex and another using heat method. 

Sometime in the 67 or 68 model year, a new process and materials were used for plastic molded parts, the mold release was incorporated into the raw plastic. That is why most current stickums won't work. Prior to that, a mold release was sprayed into the mold before the plastic was injected/poured etc. Today, there are many "glues" made for that type of plastic.

I don't remember the brand name, but I got it at Tap Plastics https://www.tapplastics.com/ . I got halfway thru telling the counter guy what I needed as he handed me a tube of the stuff. It's been at least 15 years. I used it to repair the rear window latch covers on a friends 69 Sportsroof (before his kid took out 60 feet of chain link fence with the car).

I had to go to Tap Plastics this morning to get some adhesive for another project and got this E6000 stuff -

Tap Plastics say this will work on plastics that have the mold release incorporated into the plastics. One ounce with the tips was $5.75. Also try Amazon.

I don't know about the earlier consoles but plain acetone will melt and fuse the 67/68 material.  You have to be careful but its possible to make repair without a lot of messy build up, especially if repairing a simple clean crack in the plastic.

 I will order some of that glue just to see how it works. Might try the acetone as well. I have a 68 console that I replaced earlier this year that will be the perfect candidate.
