Topic: Problem with stainless window trim

In my quest to reassemble my BOSS puzzle, I am now attempting to install the vertical stainless steel trim on the rear edge of the side windows. I have removed the oem trim and would like to install the NOS replacements I bought. The problem is that the NOS trim is stamped differently. The slot that slides on to the glass is way too wide. The original trim is an interference fit with a yellowish glue to hold it on. The NOS looks like it is twice the width of the original. Has anyone else seen this? Is there a gasket or something that's missing? I know these were revised from 1969 to 1970, but I have the correct D0ZZ parts. What's up here?

Some repros are not made well. I got mine from NPD and you need to silicone glue them onto the glass as they also were not fitting correctly. I believe there are even instructions that come with them telling you to silicone them on.

So are you saying that my NOS parts are likely reproductions?

I am not saying they were, but my originals did not have any slop, did not need to glue them on though I think a little was used. They fit on the glass like a glove. Unfortunately, they were only the stainless steel parts that went over the glass as the rest had broken off and was missing. I had one of the repro's brake/separate shortly after I installed it, so the next one got a very thin filling of JB weld where the two parts are joined so as to keep them from flexing and stressing the spot welds.

What confuses me is that the NOS ones I have were still in the wrappers. They look like they were meant to be used on much thicker glass, or with some sort of gasket or seal between the stainless and the glass.

I may have found my problem. I think my NOS trim is missing the "black plastic channel insert" mentioned in this thread:
