what to do with 65 wheels
« on: December 12, 2020, 09:04:46 PM »
I would like to keep the original wheels, but 2 are "curbed" with bent rims, and all have some rust spots and are not as nice as I would like. Can these be straightened, trued, and repainted? Who might straighten and true? I can blast and refinish?

Depending on how badly bent they are there are/were places that fits them. Locally and others have shipped to them is Stockton Wheel in Stockton Calif. No connection other than I've know of the place for decades and they have built wheels and done other jobs for me in the past

Not sure their hours or situation given the past year and the challenges placed on small businesses that live on person to person sales

Thank you -shipping would be painfu$$, but these are originals and are in really good shape, just curb rash and a 1/4" bend in the edge of one.

You can do a fair amount of straightening of the lip outside the tire. A straight edge, tape measure and a good eye can get you pretty far. You have to use some common sense about it as well. Some are just not worth it.

I use a large punch, chisel and a small sledge hammer. One may say this is pretty crude but I have seen wheels bent by someone putting a wheel weight on.

Have you checked local business's. 1/4" is not that much if its all in the rim edge

An adjustable wrench can be used to roll the edge back out. Welding can put back any scraped metal. The one thing most cannot do themselves, is to get a wobble from being out of round.
65 through 67 Styled Steel wheels cannot be made truly round again (if that is the wheel you have).
