Radiator cap
« on: November 23, 2020, 08:03:37 PM »
Does anyone on here have a close up picture of a real chrome radiator cap?  I am curious how they compare to a repo.  Thanks for any help!  Armond

I believe this is my original cap from my 68.5 CJ. it has been painted a silver cad. I am not sure if it was chrome.

That one is stamped Motorcraft so it's 1971 or later.

Seems as good as time as any to verify this one. My mistake I didnt realize this was posted in 1969 cars i believe this to be correct for a 68 car with a zinc plated cap and not chrome.

That one looks real. The center rivet on the repos used to be different - not sure if that is still the case or if there is another way to tell?

Since the design and stamping be the same no matter if it was a chrome or zinc plated version?  If so we should be able to compare either - Just a thought.

Early car reproduction verse originals have slight differences in the sharpness of the large outer ring letters and the slight size difference between the inner fonts

Below are some examples - Top center is identified as a reproduction (not sure how old of a reproduction
Lower left and right were labeled as originals. Interesting that there were two different versions of the stamping. Not sure why nor have I studied these in depth
