65 Dearborn Front Spring Cover Hardware
« on: November 15, 2020, 03:51:09 PM »
The subject came up in another thread so wanted to provide a thread so we can focus and discuss the direction and need be the original details related to the bolts and nuts that retained the front spring covers on 1965 Dearborn built cars

Origination thread http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=23659.0

Example. Upper (along top of the inner fender panels and shock tower bolts were installed with the nut in the wheel well. What is being discussed so far is the direct on installation and nut location on the remaining, lower, size nuts and bolts. Typically this is a result and believed to be different depending on assembly plant and what worked best for those workers and possibly different due to the way the line or station is designed in that area.

These are often installed during a restoration matching locally seen cars rather than as found or representing the cars original assembly plant. We have often seen the same practice applied to other factory details.

A unrestored (everything has been rattle canned black) 1965 Dearborn example and the same configuration of the first 100 examples I've looked through so far in my survey

SO look through all my pictures and looking at the results there was really no reason to make a graph since my findings were that 100% of the unrestored cars I have pictures from 65 at Dearborn had the bolts installed as shown about. There was one car/example where the bolts (lower six) were installed in reverse of the above direction but those bolts had been removed and replaced at some point in the past. In the picture below you can see that the sound deadener/undercoating over the bolt have been disturbed as shown in the picture below. Drivers side hardware was undisturbed  and bolt direction was with the nut on the engine side

While I have a list of the cars I used for the survey I thought I would at least post them (altered a little) to show that there was a pretty good representation across the production year

While we're at it here is a close up of the head marking from 5F07C7806xx. Appears to be the anchor head design
