The 68 Mustang Interior Assembly Manual (AM0022) pg 38 shows the approximate location of the nut plate. I've used a sewing needle to find "things" hidden behind headliners on other cars. Just a thought.

I have found a few pictures. One shows it at the curve of the quarter window. Another shows it above the window joint, front/back.
