Ignition Switch DOAZ11572A ?

What do you guys recommend as a solution for replacing defective original ignition switches for 1970?   I think, yet am not sure the PN is DOAZ11572A (but there appears to also be a DOAZ11572B, and I'm not sure which is correct).

It looks like all of the typical suppliers offer a replacement switch wherein you must transfer the original harness to the new switch, due to the reproduction switch having the incorrect connector and the wires are too short. Is there an alternate source wherein the wire length is correct?

I'm also reading that perhaps the 71-73 mustang ignition switch is identical to 1970, except the connector color is black instead of the 1970 grey connector. Is that correct?

I used the search box within this forum, including searching on "DOAZ11572A" yet didn't find anything. I apologize if this has already been discussed multiple times.

While not always indicative of exact factory conditions, the MPC is to me always a reasonable reference point.

If you went into a Ford dealer in 1975, for a 1970 Mustang (or early Maverick), you would have received a D0AZ-11572-A (also identified as SW-882)

Your subject line has a second character as the letter "O" and not the number "0", which is why you might have trouble finding results to searches.

In 1971 the Mustang went to the same part used on Torino, Thunderbird, Maverick, etc.  I really doubt that the difference is just a connector color.  If it was just a color change, the D0AZ-11572-A would have been replaced by (R/B) D1AZ-11572-A.

No, the connectors are quite different and not interchangeable.

Well here is a picture of two next to each other, left is 70 and right is 71. Definitely different and not interchangeable.

OMG.  You are right, my bad bad bad.  1970's are unique; 71 and 72 and the same, 73 is yet another design.

The chart you provided is very interesting in that it indicates the suffix -A VS -B changed on 10/01/69.  Since my '70 was built 10/08/69, I think I should be looking for the -B switch.  However, I wonder how accurate that switch-over date of 10/01 really is. I'll have to check my original more thoroughly for a PN.

Regarding the "A" vs. "B" change, the way I read the chart:

1. Full size Ford (A), Torino (B) and Thunderbird (S) used -B only.
2. Mustang (F) used -A only
3. Maverick (P) started with -A and then switched to -B

Based on my interpretation, you need -A.

The 70 column in my picture above has a date of November 12th, 1969 and the switch is an A.

What is the complete part number, just in case we have an identification/engineering vs service part number difference. 
There you lose out. The ignition stitch was part of the steering column sub-assembly, delivered to the assembly line as such and is not documented in the assembly manuals we have access to (reg AM0035 pg75).

D0AZ-11572-A  Is the Ford part number, SW-882 is the Ford service switch number part (later Motorcraft) number. (I guess that's the right term for the SW-882 number.)

Here's a picture of the earliest NOS switch in my pile of parts, The only marking on the switch itself is a small date code stamped in the metal part of the switch. This switch is dated May 22, 1970 so if there was another number, it was superseded during production.

The D0AZ-A switch is a pain to find as it only fits 1970 mustangs and several months of Maverick production, almost everything else used the D0AZ-11572-B  (SW-926) switch in 1970. If I'm not mistaken it's the same switch and plug, but with a short harness like the 71 switch. The 71 switch appears to be the D0AZ-B switch with a different plug.

The 70 switches went discontinued about 10-15 years ago from Motorcraft and NOS switches seem to sell for 175.00-250.00.
If you could find an NOS  D0AZ-B or D1AZ-A switch you could splice in the harness from your old switch but the "B" switches seem to be selling for several hundred dollars recently.

Most people buy the 71 switch as it's reproduced and also available from Standard for about $20 -$25 dollars. You have to splice in your old harness but it's functional. I personally wouldn't use a non Ford Part here as those 2 big wires entering and leaving the switch carry unfused current directly from the battery and having a Chinese switch have a meltdown could be disastrous.

Most Concours guys I know either buck up for an NOS switch or find a nice used factory switch. As cool as the old Autolite stuff is, i'd actually try and find an NOS (NORS?) Motorcraft switch, cause the wire on some of the Autolite versions is getting kinda stiff after 50 years or so.
