65 Console Storage Compartment Light
« on: October 05, 2020, 10:31:35 PM »
I have read other posts and for my early Nov built SJ 65 it appears that I need a light that mounts on the front cover (  NEAR FIREWALL) Vs the top of the console. I cannot find a part number or where I could buy one as mine is missing. Any information is appreciated.

At least one version/printing of the MPC suggests that the change from the light being mounted to the rear of the compartment to the top surface was done on Dec 1 1964. Don' t know if that reflects a specific fact but it does suggest reflection and study

For the rear mount version I don't think this is something you can order just out of a catalog. Not sure if your missing just the holder/cover and your wire is cut or more. The holder was used on other applications if I recall correctly such as cars with options that lite the ashtray and other items.

MPC shows it in the exploded view as being included with the wire loom for the whole (long style) console under the main number of 14412, which in further study shows that C4SZ-14412-B which provides you with another source (car model other than Mustang) to find a used one in good condition

Sure "wireman" :) may have a comment and will post once he sees your post

"Wireman" here.  I don't have enough knowledge about these consoles and their variations to help out.

That pigtail harness is a T-Bird part, marked C4SB-14412-B. To call this harness "rare" would be an understatement.
The 64 early 65 console wiring is C4ZB-13B711-A and is marked on the harness. The feed from the under dash wiring (shown on the drawing) is C4ZB-13B712-A.
Ref 65 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual, pg 38. Those with a 64 or early 65 Mustang and that also have that Manual should mark up that page with those two additional factory installed harness part numbers.
I've tried to adapt the lamp assembly used to illuminate the AT shifter but didn't get anywhere.

The 65 Console page with the lamp mounted on top of the console (AM0008 pg39) is dated 9-16-64 superseding 8-16-64. This "implies" the top console lamp was designed in August, but has no implementation date.

I promise to be politically correct in all my posts to keep the BBBB from vociferating.
