Topic: 289-Intake Manifold Fittings - Paint or no?

I’m getting ready to paint my 68 289.

The intake manifold fittings are something I can’t find the answer to in terms of paint.

The heater hose outlet fitting, and the manifold vacuum fitting(s). Painted on the engine? If painted, fully painted or overspray?

This big guy was on my engine. It has traces of blue. But that means nothing because I don’t think it’s a 1968 part. Correct me if I am wrong.

Edit: car is A/C manual drum brakes no tilt no smog. Was C4 (now T5).

Heater hose nipple was attached to the engine when it was painted with a cap or mask over the attachment for the hose.




The PVS was attached but a mask was installed over the valve so you normally get a little paint on the very bottom edge of the the brass lower section. Maybe 1/8' in places while directly under the nipples the paint "line" is more due to likely the slot in the mask that allowed for the length of the nipples






The rear vacuum fitting appears to not have been installed at time of engine painting. Other 289 2V AC drum brake engines I looked at were using a different rear fitting. . Believe there is another thread that discusses rear vacuum fittings on 68
