1967 Ford Mustang upper clutch pedal rod
« on: September 04, 2020, 10:04:43 AM »
looking at my upper clutch rod coming out of my firewall . It is on side closet to fender and is straight. Looking at the picture below shows the rod being curved and coming though on the inboard side. Which is correct?

I just rebuilt all the lower zbar  linkages and confused by the conflicting pictures I have seen with the clutch rod  (7521)

Your picture in reply #1 currently is of a 66 not a 67 as many details in the picture indicate. You should try and compare to only 67/68 to get theses details right.

The rod on the clutch pedal side of things has to come in from the left side of the car (to center).
"Side of car" is always from the driver's perspective as he's sitting in the car.
Due to how the stock rod is made the engine side also has to come in from the left side.

The correct clutch pedal and rod will not allow a backwards installation so if you see one done this way something really odd is going on.

The chassis assembly manual shows the correct assembly clearly

I believe  the original 67/68 small block and big block rods differed.  The small block rod was discontinued and big block substituted for service parts.   I think they enter the equalizer bar from opposite sides.  see this link:   http://www.thecoralsnake.com/clutch

Yes Thank you very confusing. Look at what I took out of my car vs the repro that is meant for 67/68 small block . orientation and bend is different

If you want a correct or concours car, the repop would be incorrect since it mirrors a Ford part offered as a replacement for the 67 and later used on the 68.
Even the clutch equalizer bar for the GT350 is different in 68 than the 67 GT350. Jeff split off the 67 from the 68 here as it was found that while they look similar they are really quite different cars.

Repops often use "NOS" as the guide for what to offer. Unfortunately when they often use a NOS replacement part that Ford offered in the 70s. NOS means a lot of different things. It does not have to mean what was originally on the car as it came off the assembly line.

By the way, thanks for the link to Coralsnakes write-up. Interesting. I have a difficult time with the sites' indexing. I'm a chapter/section/subject guy ...

There is a repop rod specified for 69/70 that looks real close to the original 67 small block rod.  Am not sure if it would fit but is also 12 1/2" long.

It should fit as other aspect of the clutch and z bar system are the same 67-70 besides the rods.
